Kindness and Understanding
Campus Balboa aims to create spaces where everyone can express themselves, be themselves, and achieve their full potential without fear, built on a sense of safety, security, and trust.
All people—regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, ability status, body size, ethnicity, religion, nationality, dance skill, or dance role—deserve this opportunity. The community should remain free from oppression, harassment, abuse, and violence.
Participants must pay attention to their dance partner's level of comfort and respect boundaries when communicated. Everyone has different boundaries and comfort levels.
If inappropriate contact occurs during dancing, individuals should apologize. Some people use gender-neutral pronouns and may have changed their names — please respect preferred forms of address.
Declining a dance is acceptable and should not face negative consequences. Participants may choose the dance role that they prefer without pressure to switch roles.
We do not wish to police what people do between consenting adults, but please be mindful of people's level of comfort when engaging in flirting, and do not make any unwanted sexual advances.
Safety and Wellness
Attendees share responsibility for minimizing injury risks. On crowded dance floors, be mindful of how big your steps are and where you send your partner, and apologize for collisions.
Aerials are strictly prohibited on social dance floors except in jam circles and competitions with prior practice and available space.
Alcohol and drugs cannot be brought to the event. Providing alcohol to minors is illegal in Quebec (legal age: 18).
Personal hygiene is essential: brush your teeth, shower, bring a change of clothes, and reapply deodorant if needed. Strongly scented products such as cologne, perfume, or body spray are discouraged as they can cause allergic reactions.
While masks aren't required, their use is strongly encouraged. KN95, N95, or surgical masks are recommended.
Individuals experiencing flu-like, pneumonia- or COVID-19-related symptoms should defer attendance to the next event edition.
Grow Together
None of us are perfect, and it is expected that everyone makes mistakes. Participants are encouraged toward reflection, learning, and openness to differences to foster a safer, more inclusive, and welcoming Balboa community.
Response and Intervention Protocol
The organization reserves the right to implement immediate corrective measures for code violations, including warnings, expulsion without refund, and law enforcement involvement.
Individuals experiencing or witnessing violations should contact the Safety, Consent, and Inclusion Committee (SCI) at inclusion@campusbalboa.org or approach volunteers in person.
Participants have the right to be heard, be believed, and have their privacy respected. A detailed intervention protocol document outlines information-gathering and response procedures.
