About
Campus Balboa is presenting a Slow Bal weekend with Jacob for the very first time.
We are offering 8 hours of workshops with Jacob, divided into 2‑hour blocks
"Slow Balboa" (or Slow Bal) is a dance style inspired by original Southern California swing dancers who danced to slow music. Primarily influenced by Dean and Nancy Raftery, who developed a specific slow style and Los Angeles dancer Ray Cunningham, a master of 1940s-50s "Laminu," the dance is ideal for slow jazz and ballads. Slow bal is accessible and improves balance, coordination, and muscular strength without high impact.
We invite you to discover or deepen your love for this beautiful partnered dance.
Required Level
This is an all levels workshop with a caveat: we assume that you know the basics of balboa to participate in the workshops. Newcomers are welcome to attend the dances, but you should have at least taken a couple of months of classes before registering. This is to ensure that you do not find yourself overwhelmed, and to ensure that other attendees can focus on what is being taught. If any of these words are unknown to you, please consider taking regular classes in your local dance scene instead!
